1  What kinds of events do you enjoy most? Why? Think about the ideas in the box or your own ideas.

2  Read Carl’s description of an event. Then choose the correct answers in the sentences.

Last month I was in Barcelona for a big football match. It was the last game of the year and it was a lovely hot day. Before the match, I was very excited. There were lots of people there, so it was very noisy. There was lots of singing and shouting. The game was very exciting, but unfortunately my team wasn’t very good that day. It was 3-2 to the other team at the end of the game, so I wasn’t very happy. But everyone was very friendly, so it was still a great event!

Past time expressions:

Adjectives to describe the event:

Adjectives to describe your emotions:

Notice! when we use two adjectives together before a noun, we put the opinion adjective first: There was a lovely big cake. (lovely = my opinion, big = describing the cake)
